On Thursday, we got a lot of work done on the robot. We replaced the wheels, updated the intake, redid some of the wiring, put on our RSLs, added more air tanks, replaced the cylinders, replaced the compressor, put on the new gearbox covers, mounted the sponsor panel, mounted the camera, put on our new steel axles, and did a lot of programming updates. We also played in one practice match, which was very helpful. Our scouts in the pits and the stands did a lot of work on analyzing teams and setting up match plans for Friday and Saturday. Our lead scout, Dominic, put together full match plans for us including brief explanations of what the opposing teams are capable of, a defense selection plan, and what each team in our alliance should be doing to optimize points.
On Friday, we started official matches. We won all but one of our qualification matches, and made several improvements to the robot, as well as our programming teams did some tweaking to both autonomous and teleop programming. We ended in 4th place that evening.
On Saturday, we had our final qualification match that morning, then had alliance selections before lunch. We were the fifth place alliance captains, but moved up to fourth when the first placed team picked the second placed team. We chose Team Neutrino and Orange Crush for our alliance partners. Unfortunately, during the first match of the quarterfinals, a chain popped off of one of our wheels and ended up shattering some of the gearbox, including shearing our shifter gear into four pieces. We ended up bringing in R.U.S.T. as a backup robot, and they performed spectacularly. Our alliance was finally knocked out in the semifinal tiebreaker against the alliance that ended up winning the tournament.
All in all, we had a very strong performance this weekend, and ended up qualifying for the State Championship. The State Championship is on Saturday, May 21. We will be spending the next few weeks preparing for that, as well as moving out of Peavey. We hope to see you at State!!
